Darcie Shultz is the founder
and director of Soma Dance Company. She is a graduate of the Hartford
Conservatory in Dance Performance and Pedagogy and will graduate in May 2012
with a BA in Arts Administration and Performance Studies from UMass Amherst.
Mrs. Shultz, originally from Oklahoma, attended NEO A&M College as a theatre major. Her theatre credits include: "Fiddler on the Roof", "The Mystery of Edwin Drood," "Will Rogers Follies", and "Dancing at Lughnasa." She attended the University of Oklahoma, under the direction of Denise Vale, the Jasinski Academy, was a principle dancer with Midwest Regional Ballet from 1998-2001, her performance credits at MRB include: Lucy, "Dracula," Arabian, "Nutracker Swing," Wicked Queen, "Snow White," Fairy Godmother, "Cinderella," and Kitri, "Don Quixote." Mrs. Shultz was also on full scholarship at The Alvin Ailey School in New
York. While at the Conservatory she danced with the Eva
Dean Dance Company,the Sonia Plumb Dance Company, and she has participated in
Hartford's annual 5X5 Concert from 2004-2009, the Ted Hershey Marathon, and
completed her internship with the National Dance Institute under the Direction
of Jacques d'Amboise. Darcie was the director of the Conservatory's Annual Jazz Nutcracker from 2006-2008, was a modern dance faculty member at the Hartford Conservatory from 2006-2009, was on faculty at the Hartford Classical Magnet School, and was the director of Soma Dance Theatre, a pre-professional training residency in Oklahoma. She has performed in New York City at the Merce Cunningham Studios and the Bushnell in Connecticut as a performer in the Ted Hershey tribute program. She currently resides in Colorado with her family; where she is a new mommy! She is looking forward to another start with Soma and is excited about all the opportunities to come!
